Tips for talking to Mormons . . .

Hey y'all!

Hope you've had a great week! Things weren't too exciting here this week so I don't have too much to share. I guess I'll start off by explaining the subject line (: Yesterday we attended the Church of Christ night service and we actually knew several people there and one of them said "I think we have some of y'alls literature over here!" Sure enough 10 questions and answers on Mormonism....more like 10 half-truths about Mormonism. It also had "tips for how to talk to Mormons". It was sure interesting haha!

Well, Lynn dropped us this week. On Saturday we went to see if she was planning on coming to church and her mom answered the door and told us that Lynn never wanted to see us again. Missionary life!

I hit my 10 month mark! Double digits!! We celebrated my 10 months and Sister Koford's one year by getting blizzards at DQ!

We tried playing "Uno Attack" with Bill at the nursing home this week. It was hilarious! He says that game is too complicated for his feeble mind. Every time he had to push the button to get cards he would flinch and cover his face (it shoots out cards at you) So we just stuck to solitaire.

We met this lady while finding that just wanted to bash with us, I hate that! She kept telling us that she hopes we find the truth and we shared the same thing back with her. Little does she know!

We took 2 bike days this week and we went out to help a sister who just had surgery clean her house. She asked us to return a crock pot to another sister so we tied it down to my basket!

We went out to the Smiths ranch on Saturday and helped them put together some beds and cleaned out their upstairs bedrooms

That's all for Andrews this week! Hope y'all have a good one!

May the Lord be with You

Hey y'all!

Hope your week has been great! Ours was pretty normal over here! Thankfully we got my bike all back to normal! It is much easier to ride without a flat tire (:

We now have 6 people in our district! It feels like so many more but it's really just 2 more. It is really nice not to have to answer every single question in district meeting!

Bill at the nursing home is doing great! We ate at a super sketch drive in called Buddy's this week, we survived! It looks like the ceiling could cave in at any second! That is the extent of our excitement here in Andrews. We got to help out at the rodeo again so that is always a great service opportunity!

The most eventful thing in Andrews was our lessons with our investigator Lynn. Lets just say there was about a dozen cuss words said in the chapel on our church tour haha! Gotta love Texas! On Sunday she walks in the chapel with a Star Wars shirt that says "May the Lord be with you", a giant cross necklace, and a bunch of "WWJD" bracelets.  At least she came though! Hopefully we will be able to see some progress with her this week!

It has been a little bit cooler temperature wise but it has been humid, it always looks like it is going to rain but then doesn't actually rain, just teases us. I think there was about 45 people at church, a record since I have been here! It was nice to actually have people at church! One of the members had us over for a discussion in their home with their friend so hopefully he will turn into an investigator.

We hadn't heard anything about the eclipse here and had totally forgotten about it until we were grocery shopping and some lady mentioned it. On our way home we could see it through our sun glasses a little bit but not much. We saw people along the side of the road trying to see it, one guy even had his welding mask!

Hope y'all have a blessed week!

6 More Weeks in Andrews!

Hey y'all!

Transfer calls were this week and we found our that both me and Sister Koford will be staying in Andrews for at least 6 more weeks! Our p-day activities last week included making Swig cookies and ties! Bill at the nursing home is doing better every day! He even danced a little during singing time this week! He gave us a copy of his war stories that he wrote down so that was cool!

We met a man this week while we were walking, his name is Ryan. He actually stopped us (that never happens!). He was curious what our name tags were. He is a young oil field worker and is interested in learning more. The oil field schedule makes it super hard to catch people at home but we have an appointment with him for Saturday morning!

We had another new couple move in this week! Their name is the Breymonds and they just moved from Big Spring (about an hour away). We were walking around on Thursday and all of a sudden this woman dressed in bright yellow is running at us yelling that she is a member of our church haha! We were sure surprised! We were able to help them move some things that day and helped them all Saturday morning and afternoon as well. They are super nice! She actually works at the bank with Pastor Jeff (from the Grace Baptist Church (no he didn't come to stake conference)) so we are going to have dinner with all of them at the Breymonds house sometime soon! She is super excited to help us work on him and she also said that he looks just like a bishop (that's what we keep thinking!!)!

This week was McArthur annual ice cream day! The last Friday before school starts you can go to the McArthurs and have as much ice cream as you want as long as you ask for it! We only went by twice. It is a super fun tradition that she shares with the whole neighborhood!

We had stake conference this weekend and it was great! It was awesome to see other missionaries and for me to see all the members from Odessa!

I hope y'all have a great week!!

Biking in the rain!

Hey y'all!!

We started the week off with exchanges in Midland. They were sure an adventure! Our STL's have decided that whenever possible they are going to bike to try to talk to more people so I biked on day one of the exchange. We headed off to our first appointment when the rain started. It wasn't too bad at first but by the time we got to their house we were pretty wet. She offered us towels to dry off and we had a really good Restoration lesson with her! We went back out and it stopped raining but when we got to the next appointment we realized my tire was getting pretty low. We had the lesson, he was a former who was super close to baptism (he had 2 baptismal interviews) and then decided that he was Atheist. It was really weird because the second we saw him Sister Nelson and I both said he looks just like a member! Turns out he had actually went to the ysa ward on Sunday (though he still claims to not be interested). So an Atheist former told us the Mormon church was his favorite....anyways, while we were in his house we heard a severe storm warning go off and we were about a 30 minute bike from their apartment with a flat tire. We went outside and it began to POUR! We ended up underneath a covering at a restaurant. So we were soaked huddling under an awning with some old Hispanic guy who kept trying to sell us tamales at 9:00 at night. It sure was an adventure! Finally the other sisters answered the phone and came and picked us up!

Our investigator, Becca, had a cyst removed from her liver this week and the surgery went well so we are hoping to see her progress now and if not we will probably have to drop her :(

We went on splits to go visiting teaching with some sisters in the branch this week so that helped us to get into some less active homes that we usually aren't able to get into! We brought one of the LA's a snow cone, his name is Ernesto and he is super sweet! He lives right across from us and he is an older Hispanic man who is disabled. He loves us coming over to share scriptures and to practice my Spanish!

We bowled with polka music this week at the nursing home. Bill is doing quite a bit better! He is almost back to where he was when I got here! Him and his wife, Faye, used to polka dance all the time so he loves that music!

At the Life Center this week the owner, Betty, came and told us that God had been pressing on her heart that she needed to hear what we have to say and that she wanted to hear why we were out here doing what we were doing. We are super pumped! We are planning to go over to her house sometime this week! We tried a new treat this week at the Life Center too. They are called Kolaches and they are pretty good! They are like pigs in a blanket and we have seen them sold at all the donut shops around here.

On Saturday we went out to the car and pulled away and then realized that someone had left a Book of Mormon on the hood of our car! How crazy!? We pulled over and got it off but can't figure out who would have put it there??

We have a new family at church! They showed up and we all assumed they were just visiting for the day but they are here to stay! We only had about 27 people there on Sunday so we were glad to have them!

Hope y'all have a blessed week!
